Forget-Me-Not: Glitter Jar Memories

Happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed the festive season!

For us, 2013 marked a very significant year. We graduated high school and were beginning life as university students whilst also venturing into the rollercoaster of...adulthood! To capture these important moments we decided to write them down. Wanting to approach this idea in a more unconventional manner than say, a diary, we chose to place little notes and other momentos inside a jar (not to be opened until 31st December 2013!).

As avid followers of the YouTuber Bethany Mota (MacBarbie07), we were inspired to create a glittery jar similar to the one in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugCJVhrdCK0

Here is a step-by-step guide of how we made our glitter jars:

Step 1. Find a jar of any shape or size, we decided to go for a medium-sized, circular jar.
Step 2. Cut out a shape of your choice on clear book contact (we went with a heart shape, similar to Bethany!).
Step 3. Line the jar with some craft glue using a paint brush (this is a less expensive alternative to spray glue which Bethany used in her video).
Step 4. Quickly fill the jar with A LOT of glitter (yes, A LOT!), our colour of choice was gold. However, if you want to take a different approach you could always use coloured sand, sequins or anything else which will stick to the glue. Get creative!
Step 5. Leave to dry over night.
Step 6. Remove the clear contact heart. This can be quite tricky so be sure to remove it slowly and carefully.
Step 7. If you bought a jar with a handle, you can add ribbons, flowers, craft rhinestones and any other bits and bobs you can think of to add your own personal touch.

Once all these steps are complete, you can start filling your jar will all the wonderful memories that make up your year!

To mix things up a bit this year, we want to document our memories in a different way. We are thinking of decorating a little notebook which will be filled in a similar manner to the glitter jar. We would love to hear how you keep note of your most treasured memories that occur throughout a year. Leave us a comment below!
